While Deathbringer focuses on ailments infliction and damage, Deathguard focuses on debuffs, granting protection against ailments, and healing. Spirit Absorb restores HP to the user when inflicting a debuff, Death's Asylum gives the user a chance to nullify ailments, Atonement deactivates Miasma Armor to restore HP and cure ailments for the party, Miasma Wall deactivates Miasma Armor to block ailments that are being used on the party, and Eroding Miasma and Masking Miasma are debuffs that reduce enemy physical/magic defense and accuracy, respectively. There are also 2 attack moves related with dispelling enemy’s debuffs. Ephemeral Reap dispels all debuffs to deal damage and Soul Transfer dispels all debuffs to give Auto-Revive status for one turn.

Deathguard can fit into any team as a main healer or as a dedicated debuffer. Wilting Miasma gives benefit to bind and ailment dealers such as Barrage Brawler, Graced Poisoner, and Rover. Eroding Miasma gives benefits class that focuses on dealing physical and/or magical damage. Masking Miasma’s accuracy debuff benefits Phantom Duelist by increasing the chance of dodging attacks. Stifling Miasma is retained and still offers 20% damage mitigation at level 10.

With the assumption of rested character with around 30 skill points, maximize Wilting Miasma, Eroding Miasma, and then slowly work toward Endless Shroud and Spirit Absorb. Once Endless Shroud reach level 5, learn Death's Asylum and Atonement. Ephemeral Reap may also be used as offensive move, but the other party members may have better moves in dealing the damage.

Build notes:

  • Brouni Union Skills are always great on a healer/support class.

Deathguard Healer/Debuffer Build:
Start [ Stifling Miasma (3) > Wilting Miasma (3) > Miasma Armor (2) > Endless Shroud (5) > Auto-Miasma (10) > Death’s Asylum (5) > Atonement (4)]

Then level Atonement whenever you need stronger healing, obtain or increase whichever debuffs you find useful, and invest in Union/Gathering/Racial Skills.
