Deathbringer is similar to Barrage Brawler, but with ailments. This class has various ailment-related skills. Black Blade and Black Shroud passively increase attack and defense if the Deathbringer lands an ailment while Miasma Armor is activated, Bloody Reap deals multi-hit damage to random enemies, Frigid Reap deals a second hit for twice the damage if the target has ailment, Temporal Shroud deals amplified damage but deactivates Miasma Armor, and Toxic Reap, Chaos Reap, and Fatal Reap try to inflict Poison, Panic, and Instant Death ailments, respectively.

By using Frigid Reap on an enemy with an ailment Deathbringer earns its keep as a solid damage dealer. Deathbringer also retains access to Wilting Miasma which lowers enemies' resistance toward ailments and binds, so all classes which can inflict ailments and binds benefit from it. Barrage Brawler, Graced Poisoner (although their roles can overlap), Hound-focused Rover, and Necromancer (both Mastery classes) make for good partners. It should be noted that Barrage Brawler and/or Rover binds with Deathbringer and/or Graced Poisoner ailments can completely render FOES/Bosses helpless during battle.

With the assumption of rested character with around 30 skill points, since ailments depend on Miasma Armor, maximize Miasma Armor and Wilting Miasma, then spend 5 points to Auto-Miasma. Spend the rest of the points Chaos Reap, Frigid Reap, Black Blade and Status ATK Up, maximize Auto-Miasma, and then learn the other Reap skills if you want. Temporal Shroud can be used as a finisher move, but the other party members may have better moves in dealing the damage. Fatal Reap may also be used to defeat FOEs when needed.

Leave Miasma Armor at 2 and Wilting Miasma at 4 or 9, then this is a good opportunity to level Auto-Miasma to 10 for random battle fluidity. If there is another ailment/bind user, Auto-Miasma or other Reap skills are lower on priority and Wilting Miasma is higher on the priority. Conversely, if Harbinger is primary ailment user, Auto-Miasma would be on the higher priority and Wilting Miasma would be on lower priority (i.e. leave it at 4). If Harbinger is to be the main damage dealer at this particular point, ditching debuff tree and going for Miasma Armor~Bloody Reap is another option.

Build notes:

  • Black Mist is a great Union Skill, a must have in my opinion.
  • I prefer Frigid Reap to the other damage skills but Bloody Reap’s low TP cost makes it a very solid pick, especially early game without SP investment into the ailment infliction skills.
  • Chaos Reap inflicts the most useful ailment in my opinion.
  • Toxic Reap is the strongest Poison ailment you can inflict on an enemy, but I would not prioritize this skill unless your party is struggling with random battles.

Wilting Miasma Deathbringer Build (This build cannot inflict ailments for quite awhile):
Start [ Stifling Miasma (3) > Wilting Miasma (9) > Status ATK Up (1) > Miasma Armor (2) > Auto-Miasma (10) > Judgement (3) > Bloody Reap (4)]. The Black Mist Union Skill should be learned ASAP.

Optional TP Up (1)

Then [ Paralyzing Reap (3) > Cursed Reap (3), choose Toxic Reap (1, 4, or 9) And/OR Chaos Reap(1 or 5) > Black Blade (1) > Grabbing useful Union/Gathering/Racial Skills (STR, LUCK) should be leveled based on what your party needs most.]

Then Frigid Reap (9 or 10) and/or Bloody Reap (10) can be used as your primary damage skills.
