2nd Stratum Superboss

This request only appears if you have cleared Ride the Wind and Lightning request after reaching 26F. Head into Explorer Guild to meet Egar again who now reveals his true request. He wants to collect a necessary material for creating a legendary tackle by defeating the Primordiphant in 8F. Simply land on 8F and then head toward Primordiphant's location to fight it.

There is one infamous trick while this quest is active. If you land on 9F and then go downstairs, you can fight Primordiphant without meeting Egar near the entrance of 8F. Primordiphant defeated in this way will immediately revive if you keep going back and forth between 8F and 9F. This is probably the best time to farm both of Primordiphant's loot if you need it. Pachyderm Crown can be sold to unlock Polydeuces, the strongest cestus in the game, and Survival Vest, the best armor for Rover, and Primordial Trunk can be sold to unlock Musha Armor, the best armor for Masurao. After meeting with Egar near the entrance, Primordiphant won't be revived in this manner anymore.

If this is your first time dealing with the boss, you have the option to bring Egar as the sixth party member. He is a Dragoon - Cannon Bearer, and if you have another Dragoon, you can activate double Line Guard on each row, as all of Primordiphant's attacks are physical-based.

Despite being a monster you had to run away during main story, this boss doesn't really pose a threat for now. Fang Skewer deals line-piercing damage, Trunk Whip may inflict paralysis, and Leg Binder may inflict Leg Bind. Its ultimate move, Emperor Strike has zero accuracy, but King's Grace can increase its accuracy and decrease your evasion at the same time.

Primordiphant is very likely to open the battle with Emperor Strike which wastes its turn, giving you the opportunity to go all out on your first turn. However, I prefer to inflict petrification as fast as possible, then cast buffs/debuffs and finally launch the best damage-dealing move. Egar's Line Guard + Gunmount may be used to protect your front row, and Buster Cannon may be used when the boss is petrified. Anyway, you shouldn't have any problem in defeating this boss. If you manage to defeat it while it's legs are bound, you'll also obtain Primordial Trunk as additional loot. There should be many moves that can inflict Leg Bind; Leg Binder item may be the general solution, but Celestrian's Chain Blast is still the best to completely shutdown the boss.

While in this stratum, you may also want to climb the upstairs to 10F and fight the Hippogryph again to obtain its additional loot, Transient Pick. Head back to INN to save your progress and then warp to 27F.
