    Your Child

After you marry, you can choose to have a son or daughter if you like. Visit Moon Valley a week after you build the final house upgrade and Doc will have the Crib for sale in his inventory. You'll need 7,000 G, ten Softwood Lumber, five Wool, and two Orichalcum to construct it. Having the Crib is necessary to trigger the pregnancy event, so if you do not wish to have a child, simply do not build the Crib. Note however that not having a child will prevent you from completing the post-game story and unlocking the seventh Harvest Sprite.

    Pregnancy and Childbirth

Once the Crib has been built and 25 days have passed after the wedding ceremony, the main character or the main character's wife will become pregnant. 30 days later, there will be a second pregnancy event where your spouse will ask if you would prefer to have a boy or girl. The gender you select during this scene will determine the child's sex and cannot be changed, so consider your answer carefully. 31 days after this event, your son or daughter will be born and you will be prompted to name the little tyke. Your spouse does not offer any suggestions, so if you can't think of a name you like, try naming them after your favorite character, using a random name generator, or skimming a baby name site for ideas. Note that names must adhere to Nintendo's half-baked censorship policy, which bans scores of innocent words used in the very same game for arcane reasons while allowing dozens of actual offensive words through just fine. Ranting aside, the birthing event will end at 8 PM.

    Maternity and Paternity Leave
From now on, your spouse will stay indoors all day to care for your son or daughter until he or she is fully grown. This means you will be unable to accept or complete requests (or make purchases from them, if your spouse is either Catherine or Hunter) for quite some time. It's a good idea to prioritize wrapping up any unfinished business you may have before the due date rolls around.

    Childcare

After the baby is born, you will receive a Rattle and some Formula Milk. You can talk to him or her for .5% chemistry and shake the rattle once per day for 1% chemistry, but more importantly, you will need to feed the little one once per day. Hanna will now carry the recipe for Formula Milk in her shop for 450 G, or you can simply buy the milk directly for 800 G each. Formula Milk can be made in your kitchen with two Milk or one of any higher quality milk. Should you forget to give your infant a bottle, you will be kept awake by his or her crying that night and wake up tired at 8 AM the next day. Like other NPCs, the baby has its own schedule, waking up at 7 AM, taking an afternoon nap from 3 PM to 6 PM, and falling asleep for the night at 8 PM.

    Baby's Schedule
    6:00 AM - 7:00 AMSleeping
    7:00 AM - 3:00 PMAwake
    3:00 PM - 6:00 PMSleeping
    6:00 PM - 8:00 PMAwake
    8:00 PM - 5:00 AMSleeping

    Events

30 days after the child is born, the first child event will occur. 30 days after the first child event is the second child event. 30 days after the second child event, the post-game story will begin.

    All Grown Up

After completing the post-game story, your child will no longer keep you awake at night if you forget to give him or her a bottle. Approximately 30 days after completing the post-game story, your child will be fully grown and no longer need an afternoon nap. Instead of using the Rattle, you will now receive a Picture Book to read together. Approximately a month after this event, your child will offer to help you out on the farm. Talk to him or her between 1 PM and 5 PM on a weekday when you have unwatered crops near the entrance to your valley, and the prompt "Ask for help" will appear. Like the Harvest Sprites, the child will only help out every other day.
