Game Trivia

  • In previous games, to get a free Premier Ball from Poke Marts you have had to buy 10 or more regular Poke Balls from them. Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire finally generalized this so that ten or more of any kind of Pokeball bought nets the Premier Ball.

  • Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire was released on November 21st, 2014. This is exactly 12 years to the day after the Japanese release of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire Versions for the GBA, which OR/AS are remakes of.

  • When using the DexNav, the map portion on the Touch Screen is actually how part of the area appeared in the original Ruby/Sapphire games, and the sprites on it are magnified versions of their menu sprites from the same.

  • ORAS were the first games to have different pokeball sprites in animations. If you caught a pokemon in an Ultra Ball and traded it, the animation will show an Ultra Ball. In games before ORAS (including X and Y), the animation will always show a normal pokeball sprite.

  • Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire mark the first time that the Pokemon Reshiram and Zekrom - the mascot Pokemon of the 2011 releases Pokemon Black and White Versions - could be Shiny. Prior to now, these two Pokemon were "Shiny-Locked" and never could be Shiny without cheating, but it is now very possible for them to be Shiny, so long as they're obtained in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

  • When you show the Eon Ticket to Norman at the Petalburg Gym, he will say that it has been 11 years since he last saw the Eon Ticket. 11 years prior to the release of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (2014) corresponds to the year 2003, the year that saw the original release of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire on the GameBoy Advance, and the first and only other time that the Eon Ticket event occurred.

  • The Pokedex - as shown when using it - is in the same and design of a original-model GameBoy Advance. This is an obvious reference to the console on which the original Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire first appeared.

  • In Japan in early 2015, a special Arceus to celebrate an upcoming Pokemon movie in Japan was given out, with 18 announced varieties. However - either by accident or intention - a 19th Arceus variety was given out to some players: a Shiny Arceus. This marks the first time since the Pokemon's introduction in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Versions (2006 in Japan, 2007 elsewhere) that it has been allowed to be Shiny.

  • In the Battle Resort, there are five trainers who can be battled daily, and they specialize in Grass, Poison, Fairy, Bug, and Ground-type Pokémon. These are the only types not used by any Gym Leader, Elite Four member, or Champion in Hoenn. (Steven is considered a Steel-type specialist.)

  • When you use the Mirage Spots to encounter legendary Pokemon, the battle themes played there are usually remixes of their battle theme from their games of origin. There is one notable exception to this, however: when battling Entei, Raikou, and Suicune, you will hear the original 8-bit battle theme as present in Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal Versions on the GameBoy Color.

Famous Quote

  • Computer in Team Aqua/Magma Base: It's a machine that controls laser to irradiate Meteorites. Touch panels are crammed on the screen. The labels say,
    'Fire the laser beam delicately.'
'Fire the laser beam a little bit more.'
'Fire the laser beam fairly judiciously.'
'Fire the laser beam like whoa.'

Connection to Other Media

  • At the launch of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, you could download a Shiny Beldum. There are several in-game references triggered by taking it or its evolutions to several people. In particular, if you speak with Steven while it is in your party during the Delta Episode in the Mossdeep Space Center, he will speak of how it reminds him of the time he faced Rayquaza, team with a young man and his black Charizard. (In this case, Mega Charizard X.)

This event is actually a reference to a specific episode of the Pokemon anime series, a special episode with no real canonical relations to the main anime series. The episode is known as Pocket Monsters XY Special Episode: The Strongest Mega Evolution ~Act II~: it was aired in Japan on November 6, 2014, but (at the time of writing) has not been aired elsewhere as of yet. During said episode. Steven and another Trainer Alain have their Shiny Mega Metagross and Mega Charizard X attempt to fight Mega Rayquaza, but are quickly overwhelmed.
