Livestock

About Livestock

There are various animals that you can have on your farm. Animals which produce products for you are known as livestock and are different from pets. In order to have livestock, you must build either a chicken coop or a barn. A chicken coop can hold up to a maximum of 8 chickens. Only 2 rabbits can be in any given coop. A barn can hold up to a maximum of 8 animals including: alpacas, camels, cows, goats, llamas and sheep. Although they are not livestock, horses are also housed in the barn. You can mix and match as many animals as you like.

In general, you must feed your animals daily. It is not necessary to bring them out to graze, although animals with Active personalities will level its affection with you faster if it grazes outside. If you put chickens outside, you must also build a chicken feeder if you intend to feed them outside. Other livestock will simply eat any grass that is growing. Animals will eat from 7:00 to 21:00 (9PM). One piece of fodder is equal to 10 servings, so if you only have one animal in the barn, the fodder will last for 10 days. If your barn is at maximum capacity, then the fodder will hardly even last 1 day.

By feeding, brushing, talking to and taking the byproducts of your animals, you will raise your animal's affection with you. The higher the heart level, the higher the star level of your animal's goods. Higher star levels sell for more profit. If, by chance, you anger an animal enough, it will run away. You can find it along the way to town somewhere. Talk to it to bring it back home.

Alpacas

Overview

While alpacas do not produce byproducts as often as cows or sheep, their wool is incredibly valuable. Their wool is most frequently used to make clothes.

Care

Alpacas of both colors are kept in the barn. They must be fed daily to avoid becoming sick. It is recommended that you brush them and talk to them daily as well for the same reason. They can be sheared for their wool once every 5 days. Even if you feed your alpaca a sheep treat, you must still feed them fodder or they will get sick.

Occasionally, you will find dirty clumps in the barn that resemble fodder. These dirty the barn and must be cleaned using the pitchfork to keep your alpacas happy.

Alpacas of both colors have an average lifespan of 5 years, but this can be increased with higher affection ratings. However, alpacas cannot live forever, so eventually they will pass away.

Do not be alarmed if your alpacas seem incredibly frightened of you. It is perfectly normal for them to frantically run away from you. Once you earn more affection with them, they will follow you around like other animals.

Breeding

To breed alpacas, you must talk to one of the countries. They will have an option for you to pick which alpaca you would like to impregnate. Once your alpaca is pregnant, the gestation period will last for 21 days. When it's born, it will be born as a baby cria and will take another 21 days to become a regular-sized alpaca. There are no opposite sex alpaca available in this game, so all breeding must be done through the various country's animal options, although it doesn't matter which country's stall you visit.

Overview

While camels do not produce byproducts as often as cows, sheep or alpacas, their wool is more valuable. Their wool is most frequently used to make clothes. They are very similar to alpacas and llamas.

Care

They can be sheared for their wool once every 6 days. Even if you feed your camel a sheep treat, you must still feed them fodder or they will get sick.

Chickens

Overview

Chickens are often the first animal bought in the Bokujou Monogatari series. They produce eggs, which can then be further processed into mayonnaise. Your first cow is given to you for free by Eda relatively early in the game.

Care

Chickens, including Silkies and Araucanas, are kept in the chicken coop. They must be fed daily to avoid becoming sick. It is recommended that you pick them up daily as well for the same reason. Each morning, they will lay eggs for you to collect. They will stack up to two days worth if you don't want to collect them every day. Even if you feed your cows a treat, you must still feed them chicken feed or they will get sick.

Occasionally, you will find dirty clumps in the chicken coop that resemble fodder. These dirty the coop and must be cleaned using the pitchfork to keep your chickens happy.

Chickens have an average lifespan of 4 years, but this can be increased with higher affection ratings. However, chickens cannot live forever, so eventually they will pass away. The Silkie and Araucana chickens, on the other hand, have an average lifespan of 5 years. Like regular chickens, this can be extended, but not indefinitely.

Breeding

Chickens are magical creatures that lay eggs that hatch simply by placing them in the incubator. No roosters necessary (or available)! To breed your chickens, simply place an egg into the incubator inside the chicken coop. The egg will take 7 days to hatch. After that, it will remain as a chick for five days. After the five days are up, it will turn into a smaller version of a regular chicken and will remain this way for another 5 days, after which it will become an adult. Younger chickens do not lay eggs, so don't be concerned if you notice your white, feathered chicken not producing eggs if it's healthy. If you aren't in a rush and want to save money, you can buy one chicken and use its eggs to fill up your chicken coop. When a chicken is hatched from the barn, the baby's heart level will be dependent on the quality of the egg. The higher the quality of the egg, the higher the heart level.
