Introduction

NOTE: Information may appear to be missing if viewed with pagination. If information (particularly the Bachelors) appears to be missing, please view it as a single page. The issue is currently being debugged by GameFAQs.

This walkthrough is copyright 2015 Leanna Diaz and was written under the Contributor Name Raserei Hojo.

Way back in the day, I made a walkthrough to Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life. So here I am again, about a decade later, writing another Harvest Moon guide. Well, Story of Seasons.

Tutorial

If you played Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, then you might be dreading the thought of the tutorial. However, it's only a week or so long and does a pretty good job at teaching you the basics of the game. You'll meet some key people and get a feel for your future life on the farm!

Conquests

It almost makes it sound like a fighting game! Conquests are fairly simple in this game. For once, you actually have some rival farmers in your town. Sometimes, you will have to challenge them if you want a particular plot of land (the fenced off, out of the way areas just outside your farm). Whoever wins the conquest has the sole right to that plot of land. If you happen to win a conquest and don't want to bother fighting for your land again, you can simply re-register your plot at the Guild Hall, free of charge. If you fail to re-register, though, a rival farmer might try to challenge you to a contest.

The various conquests have different requirements. Unless you pick, the rival will pick a completely random competition so be sure to read what you have to do. It can range from shipping the most goods, to earning the most money, to winning a festival. It is important to note that, when it comes to shipping, only the goods shipped on the day of the conquest count. You can't ship your entire stock of Golden Linen Cloth the day before and have that count, too.

Your biggest rival will be Georgio when it comes to flowers and crops; Elise when it comes to animals. Fritz generally fails to perform as well as the other two.

If you want to know a range of what to shoot for so you don't waste goods, you can save the morning of your conquest, then sleep til tomorrow to see the results. Keep in mind that the results are not guaranteed to stay the same; they have a range and can fluctuate up or down, but peeking at the results can give you a good idea of how well you need to perform. It's always a good idea to save the day of a conquest anyway in case you mess up in some way.

Beginner Tips

  • If you want to make a lot of money really early, KEEP FIVE BAGS OF TURNIP SEEDS. That's seeds, not actual turnips. You can't buy them after Spring and you need them to make the ever-profitable Seed Maker.
  • You will also need 5 bricks for your Seed Maker; save scum before diving in the rivers if you want to get enough early
  • Save 5 iron to make a Pitchfork so you can clean your animals' waste
  • Save 5 milk so you can complete Elise's first Farm Rival event (if you're interested)

Multiplayer

You can play together online with your friends, or even with complete strangers. You can either host or visit your farm. When the host leaves, you can no longer perform any actions. Aside from giving a gift to the people who visit you/people you visit, the major benefit to multiplayer is the magic wand. Wands enable players to "wand" crops they see. After enough wandings, the star level will increase. You could theoretically sit there all day and invite people to your farm to have people wand your crops, and you would get from 0.5 stars to 5 stars eventually. You can also wand animals, which will reduce their stress level.

If you want to give good gifts, consider offering bricks or turnip seeds. If you visit someone's farm, they won't know which gift is from whom, so don't feel bad if you can't give something valuable.

If you ever need to end multiplayer/leave someone's farm, or if you have questions, talk to Veronica in the south portion of your farm.

For those of you who have played Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, the trading is similar. However, there are restrictions on what you may trade such as: you cannot trade colored downs, nor can you trade Silkie or Araucana eggs. In other words, you can't use it to get certain animals faster like you could in ANB.

Festivals

Festivals are what some people consider to be the heart and soul of the series. It gives the player something to do besides strictly farm, and presents an opportunity to see how well you've been doing. Unlike other Harvest Moon titles, the festivals actually get harder as the years go by. You can get away with 1.5 star goods in year 1 sometimes, but when Year 5 comes around you're not going to win with anything other than a 5 star entry, and even then there's a bit of luck involved.

Spring Festivals

Spring 10 - Spring Fashion Fiesta

You won't be able to participate in this festival until Spring of Year 2 and beyond. You will receive a letter telling you the theme of the next Fashion Show, so be sure to read your mail! Between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM), talk to Veronica in front of the Trade Depot to participate. You will be given a model that you can dress up, change their physical appearance, and send them off to victory. If you fit the theme well, you might pull off a win.

1st place will earn you 1,000FP with the town. You will also receive a random blueprint and get an increase in your Clothing Brand.

Spring 14 - White Day

Based on a Japanese Holiday, it is a holiday where boys give gifts to everyone who gave them a gift on Valentine's Day.

If you're playing as a girl and are not married, enter your house between 12:00-18:00 (6PM). This will trigger a scene where every boy you gave gifts to, or have a purple heart with, shows up and gives you a gift. Every bachelor who gives you a gift will get a 1,000FP boost. If you're playing as a girl and are married, go into your house before midnight for a celebration and 1,000FP with your husband.

If you're playing as a boy, you'll be doing the same thing the girls do for Valentine's Day. Give gifts to any bachelorette you like to earn 1,000FP with them.

Spring 19 - Moo-Moo Festival

If you love your cow, you'll be able to win this festival! ...On year 2. Don't expect to win Year 1, no matter how many times you reset. Cows are judged on their stress level, the star quality of their milk, and the number of byproducts they produce. They are also judged based on their heart level, of course. The rarer the breed of cow, the more impressive the judge finds it. Talk to Veronica at the entrance to the Trade Depot between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) to participate.

Winning 1st place will increase your Brand with whatever breed of cow you entered, not your brand for all cows. You also get 1,000FP with the town and 30FP with the animal who won. Second and third place earn you 500FP; and 20FP and 10FP with the animal you entered depending on if you placed 2nd or 3rd.

Spring 25 - Tea Party

After unlocking at least 3 trade vendors, you can participate in this event. Talk to Veronica between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) at the Guild Hall to get started. Bring her as many drinks as you have vendors. Despite the name of the festival, you don't actually have to make tea. The vendor you interacted with the most will give you an inventory sale in return, although special items like blueprints won't be included. The higher the star level your drinks, the more inventory is included. Veronica will give you random items at the end of the festival and you will earn 2,000FP with Veronica and 1,000 customer points with all vendors who you hosted.

Spring 30 - Harvest Festival

Talk to Veronica between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) to enter. You will be asked which category you want to participate in (Vegetable, Flower, Fruit, or Misc.) Unlike other Harvest Moon games, the crop you enter is not restricted by the season. Entries are judged based on their star level and their freshness.

Should you earn 1st place, you'll get 1,000FP with the townspeople as well as either a recipe or a blueprint. Your brand for the category you entered will also increase. Even if you didn't win 1st place, you'll still earn 500FP for simply participating.

Spring 31 - Flower Fair

The festival Georgio waits for every year. Give flowers to everyone for a boost in Friendship Points! Bouquets are worth 2,000FP; non-wild flowers that you grew are worth 1,000FP; and flowers you can forage are worth 500FP. It's a quick and easy way to reel in some extra FP.

Summer Festivals

Summer 5 - Fishing Tournament

Talk to Veronica between 7:00 and 10:00AM to participate. Simply put, fish as much as you can to win! The results are random, but if you buy bait beforehand, you can sprinkle it on your fishing spot. There are two categories to win: the most fish caught and the biggest fish.

1st place in either category earns you 1,000FP with the town and a blueprint or recipe. Not winning still earns you 500FP for participating.

Summer 10 - Safari Tour

You can't even participate in this festival until you have built the Large Tree and the Boulder in the Safari. You also need to have the wild boars, monkeys and bears living in the safari. Having the Iceberg gets you more visitors, but you don't need it to participate. Go to the Guild Hall between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) and talk to Veronica. You'll go on a tour, earning varied FP with the town and earning a profit depending on how many animals you have in the safari.

Summer 15 - Fireworks Show

If you feel like you don't make a difference, this is the festival for you. In the morning, Veronica will visit and ask you to donate money to the fireworks. The more you donate, the more beautiful the display and the happier the town. You can view the fireworks at the Trade Depot between 18:00-21:00 (6PM-9PM). The more you donated, the more FP you will gain with the town: 0FP, 1,000FP, 1,500FP and 3,000FP respectively.

Summer 19 - Cluck-Cluck Festival

If you love your chicken, you'll be able to win this festival! Maybe even on year 1. Don't expect to win Year 1, but know it's possible. Chickens are judged on their stress level, the star quality of their eggs, and the number of byproducts they produce. They are also judged based on their heart level, of course. The rarer the breed of chicken, the more impressive the judge finds it. Talk to Veronica at the entrance to the Trade Depot between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) to participate.

Winning 1st place will increase your Brand with whatever breed of chicken you entered, not your brand for all chickens. You also get 1,000FP with the town and 30FP with the animal who won. Second and third place earn you 500FP; and 20FP and 10FP with the animal you entered depending on if you placed 2nd or 3rd.

Summer 30 - Harvest Festival

Talk to Veronica between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) to enter. You will be asked which category you want to participate in (Vegetable, Flower, Fruit, or Misc.) Unlike other Harvest Moon games, the crop you enter is not restricted by the season. Entries are judged based on their star level and their freshness.

Should you earn 1st place, you'll get 1,000FP with the townspeople as well as either a recipe or a blueprint. Your brand for the category you entered will also increase. Even if you didn't win 1st place, you'll still earn 500FP for simply participating.

Fall Festivals

Fall 4 - Concert

As cool as it would be to participate, you can't actually play an instrument. Still, you can go to the Trade Depot between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) to watch others play. The act actually cycles between five pieces of Harvest Moon music that may be familiar to you. Even though you don't play, you earn 1,000FP with everyone just for showing up.

Fall 6 - Pet Promenade

Ah, the pet festival. Simpler than the livestock festivals, all that's judged is the heart level of your pet and their stress level. That's it. If you win, you earn 1,000 FP, plus a blueprint. Other places earn you 500FP.

Fall 13 - Fall Fashion Fiesta

You will receive a letter telling you the theme of the next Fashion Show, so be sure to read your mail! Between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM), talk to Veronica in front of the Trade Depot to participate. You will be given a model that you can dress up, change their physical appearance, and send them off to victory. If you fit the theme well, you might pull off a win.

1st place will earn you 1,000FP with the town. You will also receive a random blueprint and get an increase in your Clothing Brand.

Fall 19 - Hoppy Festival

If you love your rabbit, you'll be able to win this festival! Maybe even on year 1. Don't expect to win Year 1, but know it's possible. Rabbits are judged on their stress level, the star quality of their fur, and the number of byproducts they produce. They are also judged based on their heart level, of course. The rarer the breed of rabbit, the more impressive the judge finds it. Talk to Veronica at the entrance to the Trade Depot between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) to participate.

Winning 1st place will increase your Brand with whatever breed of rabbit you entered, not your brand for all rabbits. You also get 1,000FP with the town and 30FP with the animal who won. Second and third place earn you 500FP; and 20FP and 10FP with the animal you entered depending on if you placed 2nd or 3rd.

Fall 25 - Cooking Exhibition

Talk to Veronica at the Trade Depot between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) to enter. You can enter one dish, or an entire 6 course meal. There are 8 categories, so you will choose either fried or pot; and you will choose either bread and noodle. Dishes are judged on their star quality.

If you win 1st with one dish, the Brand for that category of dishes increases. Winning with a full meal means every category of dish you entered will get the Brand increase. 1st place also nets you 1,000FP with everyone and a recipe set.

Fall 30 - Harvest Festival

Talk to Veronica between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) to enter. You will be asked which category you want to participate in (Vegetable, Flower, Fruit, or Misc.) Unlike other Harvest Moon games, the crop you enter is not restricted by the season. Entries are judged based on their star level and their freshness.

Should you earn 1st place, you'll get 1,000FP with the townspeople as well as either a recipe or a blueprint. Your brand for the category you entered will also increase. Even if you didn't win 1st place, you'll still earn 500FP for simply participating.

Winter Festivals

Winter 14 - Valentine's Day

If you're playing as a boy and are not married, enter your house between 12:00-18:00 (6PM). This will trigger a scene where every bachelorette you gave gifts to, or have a purple heart with, shows up and gives you a gift. Every bachelorette who gives you a gift will get a 1,000FP boost. If you're playing as a boy and are married, go into your house before midnight for a celebration and 1,000FP with your wife.

If you're playing as a girl, you'll be doing the same thing the girls do for White Day. Give gifts to any bachelors you like to earn 1,000FP with them.

Winter 19 - Fluffy Festival

If you love your sheep, you'll be able to win this festival! Maybe even on year 1. Don't expect to win Year 1, but know it's possible. Sheep are judged on their stress level, the star quality of their wool, and the number of byproducts they produce. They are also judged based on their heart level, of course. The rarer the breed of sheep, the more impressive the judge finds it. Talk to Veronica at the entrance to the Trade Depot between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) to participate.

Winning 1st place will increase your Brand with whatever breed of sheep you entered, not your brand for all sheep. You also get 1,000FP with the town and 30FP with the animal who won. Second and third place earn you 500FP; and 20FP and 10FP with the animal you entered depending on if you placed 2nd or 3rd.

Winter 24 - Starlight Gala

In the morning, you can decide to participate. If you do participate, you'll get to choose who you want to view the stars with, regardless of FP. You will meet the person of your dreams between 18:00 and 20:00 (6PM and 8PM) at the Trade Depot. Of course, if you're married, you don't get to pick someone else to watch the stars with. If you bring a date, you'll earn 3,000FP with them. If you bring your spouse (or children), you'll earn 2,000FP with each of them. For showing up, you also earn 1,000FP.

Winter 30 - Harvest Festival

Talk to Veronica between 10:00 and 13:00 (1PM) to enter. You will be asked which category you want to participate in (Vegetable, Flower, Fruit, or Misc.) Unlike other Harvest Moon games, the crop you enter is not restricted by the season. Entries are judged based on their star level and their freshness.

Should you earn 1st place, you'll get 1,000FP with the townspeople as well as either a recipe or a blueprint. Your brand for the category you entered will also increase. Even if you didn't win 1st place, you'll still earn 500FP for simply participating.

Winter 31 - New Year's Festival

Talk to Veronica at the Trade Depot between 18:00 and 20:00 (6PM and 8PM) to participate. Sit back and think about the year, and enjoy your special New Year's Noodles. The festival won't end until you leave, after which it will be 1AM and the cycle begins a new.

Unlike the other shops in town, Doctor Marian doesn't have a typical inventory to purchase from. Instead of visiting his house, you'll find the Clinic in the back of the Guild Hall. His services do cost money as seen below, but it takes 0 time out of your day as opposed to using the bath or the toilet in your home.

Restaurant

Run by Raeger, the restaurant is the place to go if you want to recover some stamina, or if you want to learn new recipes. His stock rotates each season, and more expensive doesn't necessarily mean more stamina restored. Large Seafood Rice Bowl restores the most stamina, but you won't unlock that until you unlock all seven vendors. See below for alternatives.

The more frequently you eat at Raeger's restaurant, the more recipes he will give you. It isn't restricted to once a day like Dessie's offerings. If you want, you can sit there and eat all 129 required dishes in one day. No matter the price, each meal counts as 1 dish; the number of actual dishes Raeger brings you during the cutscene doesn't matter.
