Music Stages

Overview

Music Stages is the first mode available after the tutorial. When you first select this mode, you must select a team of four characters from the main characters of the 14 main series of games. Once you have selected your team, you can only select songs from the four games represented by the four characters you picked. After you have completed four songs, you will unlock the ability to play songs from all games and any DLC you have purchased.

How to Play

When you enter Music Stages mode, you’ll be on a screen that highlights a particular game’s music dependant on the last song you played. For each game that is represented, you’ll see a list of songs that can be played. They will be listed with EMS songs first followed by BMS songs then FMS songs. You can use the stick, -pad, or touch screen to scroll up and down to select a song or left and right to choose a different game. Some songs will have "Today's Top Hit!" written on them. Playing those songs will give a large Rhythmia bonus for playing them, larger the better you do.

There are a few more ways to navigate between the songs. If you press , you can choose how you want to sort songs: by game title, song title, or by MS type. You can also press the button to have a song randomly selected or the button to list your favorite songs (more on this in the next paragraph).

Make your way to a song that you want to play then press the button for more options. You’ll see three colored boxes which represent Basic (yellow), Expert (blue), and Ultimate (red) difficulties. Tap one to begin the song on that difficulty. You also see a heart in the top left corner. Tap the heart to flag the song as a favorite. Underneath each of the three difficulty boxes are two more options. The top one lets you play in Practice Mode, where you cannot lose. The bottom one is a Demo Play that shows the song being completed with all Critical Triggers. Finally, you can press the Button to enter the Party Menu.
